Four Quick Tips For Better Thumbnails

Whether you are creating a thumbnail for a platform like Vimeo or your own website, it needs to sum up your content and draw the eye. Try these tips if you are having trouble visualising the right image.

1. Capture the Action
Action shots are good if they are clear and easy to grasp with a glance. Show the product as it operates, or highlight a section of the clip that features demonstrations.

2. Add Contrast
You may need to boost the contrast in the image, as it will be displayed at a much smaller resolution than the video itself. This improves clarity and highlights any text that you might want to add.

3. Put Someone In It
If there’s a customer, employee, or CEO in the video, put their face in the thumbnail. Having a personal face to match with the company is enticing to viewers who tend to avoid marketing content.

4. Freshen Up
Thumbnails don’t have to stay constant for the entire life of each piece of content you produce. Update the thumbnail every month or quarter to bring in new views from viewers who react to different types of imagery.
